Efficient production of reflector plate receives SEK 1.1 million in investment support

2022-03-04

Absolicon has developed the Absolicon T160 Solar collector for industrial solar heating and district heating. Absolicon also develops a range of unique and patent-pending materials that give solar collectors their market-leading performance. On March 4, Region Västernorrland approved a grant of SEK 1,135,701 for production equipment for the unique reflector plate which reflects light inside the solar collector.

Absolicon’s R&D department has researched several unique, patented materials and components that are the foundation for the solar collectors’ market-leading performance and record-high* optical efficiency.

Absolicon has now been granted SEK 1,135,701 in regional business support by Region Västernorrland for a machine that merges reflector and steel plate to the reflector plating material, which is the raw material used for Absolicon’s solar collectors. Previously, production was handled by subcontractors, but with the investment in our own machine material costs are optimized, and by extension so is the price of the solar collectors, which creates a more competitive deal for Absolicon’s production line partners. This also leads to increased quality control of the reflector plate sold to Absolicon’s partners.

– The laminating machine makes it possible to deliver rolls with reflector plating to production lines around the world. We expect to be able to start production within 6 months, says Mikael Huhmarkangas, responsible for the project at Absolicon.

A solar collector every six minutes

Absolicon’s business concept is based on selling production lines to partners worldwide for production of the company’s market-leading technology for concentrated solar heating for industry and district heating. Local production minimizes transportation and optimizes the logistics around delivery of the solar collector. Included in the business concept are also sales of affordable materials and components that increase solar collector efficiency for production line customers.

Absolicon currently has 18 framework agreements in place with companies worldwide to establish Absolicon’s production line and production of solar collectors for industries and district heating.

* In tests at the Swiss Institute for Solar Technology (SPF) in Rapperswil, Absolicon’s solar collector T160 achieved an optical efficiency of 76.4%. The highest number ever achieved for a small parabolic trough.
